Norway To War Against The Wearing Of Niqab By Muslim Students

Norway is another country in line mapping out a move to ban female students wearing full-face veils, the Norwegian education minister said Thursday.

The country's education minister by the name Torbjorn Roe Isaksen said in their opinion, that full face-face veils like the niqab don't belong in educational situations since they hinder communication.

“The government is therefore investigating the possibility of regulating the use of such garments in daycare centres, schools and universities,’’ he added.

Earlier, Isaksen told newsmen that in practice the niqab would be banned, but not through a bill.

Report says Isaksen belongs to Prime Minister Erna Solberg’s conservatives that rule with the right-wing populist Progressive Party.

However, the populists are giving full fledge support for the ban as does the main opposition Labour Party.

But at the the moment the National Union of Students with the largest members at about 230,000, are opposed to the ban, saying there was no substantial research to support the idea that full-face veils constituted a hitch in all educational situations.

Going by the National statistics agency, it goes that about 2.7% of Norway’s 5.2 million inhabitants are practising Muslims.
